The Knot enhances wedding registry offerings

May 20, 2009

NEW YORK — The Knot Inc. today announced the acquisition of several registry patents from Felicite.com, as well as the ongoing business of eWish, a Web-based service that enables online merchants to easily add online gift registries to their Web sites.

With Felicite's patented group gifting technology, wedding guests can pool gift money online to put toward the pricier items on a registry. The patent pending cash substitution technology allows brides and grooms to get more of the gifts and cash they actually want from their registry. These new features will provide couples more options and flexibility when creating and updating their wish lists.

The Knot's strategy of bringing local and regional wedding and baby registry boutiques into its WeddingChannel.com registry system will be further supported by eWish's Web service for online merchants, which currently has over 200 subscribers across the country. The Knot can now offer a turnkey solution to enable local merchants to add an online registry and create a truly local experience for members that can be leveraged across the network of hyper-local niche Web sites.

"This exciting new acquisition enables us to provide better and more complete services to our retail partners, while also enhancing the wedding and baby registry service experience for our consumers," said David Liu, chief executive of The Knot. "The addition of these technologies immediately identifies The Knot as the largest registry service destination, not only in the wedding space, but in the baby space as well."
