Walmart is considering creating a platform highlighting social media influences in a quest to sell third-party goods online.
The news comes at a time when brands and retailers are expanding their reach outside of main base e-commerce sites and inviting even other brands into their stores.
Walmart has filed trademark applications for two platform names, Walmart Creator and Walmart Creator Collective, according to a Reuters report.
The retailer already works with social media influencers to promote its clothing and groceries and even its loyalty program.
Five years ago, Amazon opened its site to influencers to create their own e-commerce bases to sell recommended products via Amazon's marketplace.
