Convenience retail brand Wawa may soon be a shopping destination for Alabama residents.
The chain is mulling opening its first location in the state, in Mobile, according to an AL.com report.
It currently operates stores in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C
The Alabama market is just one expansion strategy as the chain plans to open 40 stores in several Florida markets including the Florida panhandle, Panama City, Pensacola and Tallahassee
"Over the years, we've been delighted to hear from so many people from so many areas, who are interested in having a Wawa closer to home. We couldn't be more excited to bring Wawa's one-of-a-kind brand and offering to these new markets in the near future," John Poplawski, Wawa vice president of real estate, said in a statement. "We look forward to expanding beyond our current reach and serving these new markets with our quality fresh food and beverages and, as always, our deep commitment to the communities in which we operate."
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Wawa in Florida. The store opened in July, 2012 in Orlando across from SeaWorld.
