Whole Foods Market debuts Amazon One palm payment in Austin store

The Arbor Trails Whole Foods Market store in Austin is the first store in the Austin area to offer Amazon One, a palm recognition service, as a payment option that allows shoppers to purchase with a scan of their palm, according to a press release.

Austin is the first region outside the Seattle area where Whole Foods Market is offering Amazon One as a payment option.

Once a customer has enrolled their palm with the Amazon One service, and linked their credit/debit card, they just need to hover their hand over the Amazon One device at checkout and the card linked to their palm will be charged for the purchase.

Amazon One will be added to all seven Whole Foods Market locations in the Austin area in the coming weeks.

"We are always looking for new ways to satisfy and delight our customers and offer convenient options to improve the shopping experience," Leandro Balbinot, chief technology officer and senior vice president, Whole Foods Market, said in the release.

"We built Amazon One to offer a quick, reliable, and secure way for people to identify themselves or authorize a transaction while moving seamlessly through their day," said Thi Luu, director of product management, Amazon physical retail technology, in the release.
