Long a staple in bookstores such as Barnes & Noble, Borders and Books-A-Million, cafés offer a place for shoppers to linger over reading material. Now they are showing up in other retail locations. Starbucks runs or licenses stands in Target, Meijer and Kroger stores, and Dunkin’ Donuts stores in Stop & Shop supermarkets turn the often-tedious task of grocery shopping into an opportunity for a coffee break as customers browse the aisles. As coffee shops look for innovative ways to expand, more small-footprint locations will help make chores less of a bore.
