How do you become a retailer if your most popular products are mainly sold through OEMs? That was the debate following Microsoft's announcement of plans to open a chain of retail experience stores. Industry observers have been mostly lukewarm, noting the company can't fill stores with its own products like archrival Apple can and may be forced to partner with multiple hardware producers, diluting branding and merchandising efforts.
