When BOSE announced it was laying off 1,000 employees, or 10 percent of its workforce, in February, most analysts immediately linked the cuts to the demise of Circuit City, where BOSE had been a major supplier. Another concern has been the drastic downturn in the auto market, since automotive audio sales have been key to the company's growth. Despite being largely insulated from previous recessions, the current economic climate has shown the vulnerabilities of the popular high-end audio manufacturer. But given consumers' strong loyalty and preference for BOSE products, the company should be well-positioned when market conditions improve.
