Not only have people turned to social networking for connecting with old friends and business contacts, they are using it to connect to their favorite retail chains. Four out of 10 consumers have made a purchase based on advertising they saw on a social media site, and 76 percent welcome advertising on social networks, according to a 2008 report published by Razorfish, one of the industry’s largest digital marketing agencies. The key for the retail industry will be to tinker with how to use social networking to best benefit both customers and stores.
