It wasn’t exactly Big Brother watching you in your favorite retail chain, but it might have been a form of sophisticated digital signage and camera-based technology that retail chains have embraced as a way to help move store traffic. U.K. supermarket Morrisons implemented a system that uses infrared technology to count shoppers entering the store. The system compares that data with knowledge on the average length of shopping visit and calculates how many lanes to have open when patrons are ready to check out.
