Although the new logo replacing the old CD imagery with a bulbous double-clef note in a blue circle may have received the most immediate attention when version 10 of iTunes was released in September, the star power of the leading online media store belongs to Ping, a social network where music lovers and artists can create profiles, follow friends, post "top 10" lists and share favorite selections from their iTunes library. It is true social music discovery. With iTunes 10, Apple is beginning to shift away from being a simple music player into a system where online commerce, social networking and home use are all integrated into one easy-to-use program.
