Nordstrom made a splash in the news this week with the announcement of offering real-time in-store inventory on the web. In some ways, Nordstrom is ahead of the pack as one of the few department stores to give consumers the "heads-up" about what they might find in their nearby Nordstrom's. In other ways, Nordstrom is playing catch-up.
For example, Golfsmith has been offering online inventory - making their stores' inventory transparent to customers for quite some time. It's saved me time and energy (and also money) knowing that I'll find what I'm looking for - and even reserving my intented purchase ahead of time for quick pick-up.
Let's hope that other retailers quickly follow Nordstrom's "lead" in saving consumers time and energy.
