Whole Foods to stop accepting checks

April 4, 2010 by James Bickers — Editor, Networld Alliance

OnMilwaukee.com reports that Whole Foods is about to take away several payment options.

As seen on a sign hanging at checkout, the official word from the company is:

Beginning on May 3, 2010, we will no longer accept personal or travelers checks.

This change will help us keep our checkout lines to a minimum and will help ensure that your shopping experience is as pleasant as possible.

The company notes that it will still accept cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and gift and EBT cards.

Whole Foods first flirted with this notion back in September, and the anecdotal feedback was negative. Sure, standing behind someone writing a check is a pain, but is it really enough of a pain to merit taking away a payment method that is still widespread?

Not in my opinion … but what about you?
