Amazon Prime members bought more than 100 million items from Amazon's third-party sellers and more than 8 million toys in the U.S. during the omnichannel retailer's second Prime sales event called the Prime Early Access Sale.
The event, held Oct. 10-11, drew tens of millions of members, according to a press release. Top sellers included the Macbook Air M1, a Peloton bike, Bose accessories as well as Shark products including vacuums and air purifiers.
"Our Prime Early Access Sale was a great kickoff to the holidays, and the best part is that it's only the beginning. Customers will find millions of must-have deals throughout the season that will help them continue to save money on gifts for loved ones," Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Stores, said in the release. "We know our employees, vendors and selling partners show incredible dedication to delivering a great experience during the holidays, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to serving customers during this special time of the year."
The event, held three months after the annual Prime Day event launched in 2015, likely did not prove as lucrative as the July sales event, according to some industry watchers.
"This Prime Day seemed to be mostly just another day on Amazon," Brian Mandelbaum, chief executive at Klover, which analyzes commerce and financial data, told the Wall Street Journal.
Amazon did not disclose sales for either event though this year's Prime Day bested last year, according to the retailer.
A Numerator report prior to the Early Access Sale projected the event would set new records regarding household penetration and average household spend.
