Total retail holiday sales hit $887 billion, according to the National Retail Federation, despite ongoing supply chain hiccups and the ongoing COVID-19 Omicron variant.

The figure, which includes both in-store and online sales, reflects a 14.1% sales spike during November and December, according to a CNBC report.

It is the highest retail sales growth in 20 years and exceeded NRF's expectation of a 11.5% bump in sales.

"Despite supply chain problems, rising inflation, labor shortages and the Omicron variant, retailers delivered a positive holiday experience to pandemic-fatigued consumers and their families," NRF CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement.
