Alien, MyDealerLot offer RFID vehicle-tracking solution for auto dealers

September 13, 2011

Alien Technology, a supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) ultra-high frequency (UHF) products and services, and MyDealerLot, provider of Automated Customer Recognition and Messaging Systems (ACRMS), have teamed to provide car dealerships with RFID-enabled client recognition systems and zonal-based inventory location systems.

The two companies successfully implemented the technology recently at the new flagship dealership of a large European luxury car brand in New York City. The RFID system at the dealership consists of nine Alien Technology RFID readers, including eight Alien ALR-9900+ Enterprise Readers and one ALR-9650 Single-Antenna RFID Solution, combined with MyDealerLots' ACRMS technology using passive EPC Class 1 Gen 2 RFID tags. The technology is installed at various checkpoints throughout the 333,000 square-foot facility and provides Service Drive and Zonal Location Concierge functions.

"Our web-based client recognition technologies are designed to help auto dealerships create new sales opportunities, enhance the customer experience, manage inventory and streamline operations," said George Cresto, MyDealerLot's founder and CEO. "Alien Technology's RFID readers are core to our solutions as we work to enhance the automotive retail and service experience for both customers and dealers nationwide."

Service Drive Concierge capabilities leverage radio frequency identification to provide automated customer-arrival information, and antennas positioned over service lanes capture the unique ID number of an RFID sticker affixed to the back of an automobile's rearview mirror.

When the unique ID numbers are captured, the system references each ID with the customer information, causing two large LCDTVs to automatically welcome the individual by name. The system also relays the customer arrival information to the appropriate dealership personnel, as well as targeted messaging to anyone within the facility.
