Alternative gift registry targets people who don't want more stuff

The non-profit Center For a New American Dream has launched its So Kind Registry, an alternative gift registry that "encourages the giving of homemade gifts, charitable donations, secondhand goods, experiences, time, day-of-event help, and more."

The blog Tree Hugger writes that the service includes photo sharing, customizable templates, email notifications, and "other features that should help it compete with the big box stores."

Tree Hugger also took issue with the tone of the registry's promotional video, which it said plays like a standard, cheesy commercial — not in keeping with the alternative spirit of the service.
