Amazon is charging sellers a 5% inflation and fuel surcharge for the first time in its history as a retailer.
The fee is in response to fuel cost challenges, and went into effect yesterday, according to a CNN report.
"In 2022, we expected a return to normalcy as COVID-19 restrictions around the world eased, but fuel and inflation have presented further challenges," Amazon stated in memo provided to CNN. "It is unclear if these inflationary costs will go up or down, or for how long they will persist, so rather than a permanent fee change."
The surcharge applies to fee rates paid by sellers that choose to use Amazon's fulfillment services.
