Amazon is testing its Zoox driverless fleet of robotaxis on public roadways.
The test involves transporting company employees, according to a CNN report. Amazon is piloting the vehicles as a shuttle service at its headquarters in Foster City, California. They can carry four passengers and can reach a speed of 35 miles per hour.
"With the announcement of the maiden run of our autonomous employee shuttle, we are adding to the progress this industry has seen over the last year and bringing Zoox one step closer to a commercialized, purpose-built robotaxi service for the general public," Zoox CEO Aicha Evans said in a statement.
Amazon bought the company that developed the vehicles, Zoox, three years ago.
