In the esclating battle to provide consumers with even faster delivery options, Amazon is teaming up with UPS and DHL to put bike delivery into play in New York City. The 100 or so cargo bikes will take to the streets in Midtown and Downtown, Manhattan, according to a Forbes report in a six-month pilot program.
The effort is being endorsed by city officials, including City Council Speaker Corey Johnson who announced the program. Amazon already uses electric cargo delivery bikes for its Prime Now Whole Foods grocery delivery in Manhattan and part of Brooklyn. UPS, according to the report, has been running cargo bike delivery for the past seven years in Germany.
