Amazon is reducing its workforce in Seattle, and in other locations, reportedly slicing several hundred jobs, according to the Seattle Times.
The report claims several hundred will be out of work at the etailer's headquarters, with hundreds more in global operations and primarily related to the consumer retail businesses.
Amazon's super rapid growth is partially to blame, claims the report, and the etailer had supposedly begun hiring freezes in the past few months.
"As part of our annual planning process, we are making head count adjustments across the company — small reductions in a couple of places and aggressive hiring in many others," a spokesman told the Seattle Times. "For affected employees, we work to find roles in the areas where we are hiring."
