According to WSJ.com Market Watch, Amazon announced yesterday that it is now offering unlimited instant video-streaming of movies and TV shows at no additional cost to its Amazon Prime members. Prime members pay $79 a year for free, two-day shipping on most orders.
The move puts Amazon in direct competition with Netflix, which offers a streaming-only plan for $7.99 per month, costing $17 more than the new Amazon plan per year.
Netflix is the current leader in the market for video-streaming subscription plans and mail-order DVD rentals.
