Amazon's second big sales event, Prime Big Deal Days, held Oct. 11-12, saved members more than $1 billion and surpassed Amazon's expectations, according to Amazon.

"Prime Big Deal Days was a strong start to the holiday shopping season, offering Prime members an exclusive early opportunity to save and surpassing our expectations. This event outpaced last year's holiday kick-off event, with more Prime members shopping this year," Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a press release.

On the first day U.S. Prime members purchased more than 25 million items with same-day or next-day delivery, and fastest delivery in the U.S. on the first day of the event was 54 minutes in Ohio, ordered at 7:20 AM ET and delivered by 8:14 AM ET, according to the release.

Prime members ordered more than 150 million items from independent sellers in Amazon's store.

A Numerator report regarding the first day of the sale revealed the average spend per order is $55.86, down from Amazon's July Prime Day and nearly half, 46%, of households have already placed at least two orders. The average household spend for the first day of the sale, Oct. 10, is about $108.86.

Numerator had also predicted the omnichannel retailer's second big sale of the year could likely beat Cyber Monday in terms of consumer activity and wouldn't best Amazon's first big sale held this summer.
