Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is pulling back on hiring after years of massive growth to keep up with pandemic demands.

The scale back, however, is a reduction and not a stoppage, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The news comes just months before the retail industry's busiest sales season and Amazon's second straight quarter of net loss in June, and a report claiming there will be a second Amazon Prime Day event sometime this fall.

"I don't think that you'll see us hiring at the same rates that we did," Jassy stated at the Code Conference this week, according to WSJ. "But we'll be hiring."

Jassy just completed his first year as CEO following founder Jeff Bezos stepping down from the role.

The retailer, as well as competitor Walmart, has experienced huge e-commerce growth due to the COVID-19 pandemic years and has greatly expanded both warehouse and distribution channels in response. During the conference appearance Jassy noted Amazon doubled the size of its fulfillment network, built over two decades, in a time fame of two years.
