Amazon is putting the brake on corporate hiring in its retail division through the end of this year, including tech roles and its Amazon stores business segment.

As of early this week, the company had nearly 20,000 job listings for the retail division, according to a New York Times report which cited an internal announcement.

The internal document was sent to Amazon's recruiting teams and stated new openings will be listed early in 2023.

"Amazon continues to have a significant number of open roles available across the company," Brad Glasser, an Amazon spokesman, said in a statement, according to the news report. "We have many different businesses at various stages of evolution, and we expect to keep adjusting our hiring strategies in each of these businesses at various junctures."

The news comes just weeks after the omnichannel retailer announced it was holding a second Prime Day event this year — the first time it's done so since launching the sales event in 2015.
