Poor customer feedback is prompting Amazon to cancel future development of its home delivery robot strategy after limited pilot testing.

The move comes as retailers are striving to provide fast, efficient product delivery.

The challenges in using the Scout robots included issues such as avoiding obstacles — from garbage cans to sidewalk issues, according to a New York Post report.

"During our Scout limited field test, we worked to create a unique delivery experience, but learned through feedback that there were aspects of the program that weren't meeting customers' needs," Amazon spokesperson Alisa Carroll told the news outlet.

The team working on the robot development program will be reassigned, according to the news report.
