Amazon is piloting an electric self-driving delivery service, called Scout, that can traverse sidewalks to drop off packages.
Scout is about the size of a small cooler, according to a press release, and travels at a walking pace. It's currently accompanied by an Amazon staffer but the future quest is to have Scout deliver on its own.
Six Scouts debuted this week in in Snohomish County, Washington, delivering packages Monday through Friday, during daylight hours.
"Customers in Snohomish County order just as they normally would and their Amazon packages will be delivered either by one of our trusted partner carriers or by Amazon Scout," Amazon said in the release.
