Amazon has sold clothing for years, but it's now focused on peddling more contemporary and high-end brands, including Michael Kors, Vivienne Westwood, Catherine Malandrino, Jack Spade and Tracy Reese. It's also on the hunt for other serious designers to add to its lineup, but in the meantime is shooting 3,000 fashion images a day in its enhanced photo studio, according to the NY Times.
The company is making a significant investment in fashion to convince top brands that it wants them as partners, not competitors, Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos told the Times. It's also trying to make the site look more appealing to high-end designers, who haven't really thought of it as a place to feature their clothing lines. The company is spending a lot of money on photography, models, stylists and makeup artists and is using customer data to personalize brand and size search results. It's also running its first advertisement campaign in print and outdoors.
