Amazon's website and shopping app went offline Thursday early afternoon but was back in operation by evening.
The glitch, according to a CNBC report, was caused by a software code deployment.
During the six-hour outage customers cited checkout issues and the inability to access account information. Others reported they could not access product detail pages.
The glitch hit in early afternoon with over 20,000 users filing an issue report.
"We're sorry that some customers may have temporarily experienced issues while shopping," Amazon spokesperson Jennie Bryant said in a statement. "We have resolved the issue, which was related to a software code deployment, and website and app are now running smoothly."
