Apple is increasing hourly retail worker pay to $22, up from $20, later this year and also plans to increase corporate pay.
The news comes as retailers are still struggling with a tight workforce market and the higher cost of living facing workers. It also comes as retailers are facing union organization efforts. Workers at a Georgia-based Apple store are set to vote next month on joining the Commucation Workers of America.
"Supporting and retaining the best team members in the world enables us to deliver the best, most innovative products and services for our customers," an Apple representative said in a statement, according to a CNBC report. "This year as part of our annual performance review process, we're increasing our overall compensation budget."
Several other well known retailers, including Amazon, have been adjusting pay levels for the same reasons.
