Bank of America Mobile app gives customer $2.45B

September 3, 2020

A Bank of America customer in Massachusetts checked his account to discover the bank had deposited $2.45 billion into his account.

The customer, Blaise Aguirre, assumed the bank would quickly discover the error, but the money remained in Aguirre's account for almost a week, according to a NDTV report.

Aguirre finally reached out to his relationship manager at the bank and the error was fixed.

"This was a display error and nothing more than that," Bank of America spokesman Bill Halldin told the news outlet. "It's been corrected."

This isn't the first account mishap for the bank. Recently, a temporary display issue caused online and mobile-banking clients to see inaccurate balances of $0 in their accounts.
