Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly will leave his role this June and become board executive chairman while CFO Corie Barry will take the helm of the electronics retailer.
Barry, according to a CNBC report, will be the first female to serve as Best Buy's chief. She also held the title of strategic transformation officer.
The board executive role is brand new, according to CNBC, and the leadership changes are part of Best Buy's continuing succession planning process.
"Corie has played a critical role in developing and executing the proven growth strategy in place today, and I am confident she has the vision, skills, experience and leadership capabilities necessary to be our CEO," Joly said in a statement.
