Best Buy, TiVo, Walgreens affected by weekend hackers

April 3, 2011

According to The Los Angeles Times, Best Buy Co., TiVo Inc. and Walgreen Co. have reported security breaches, joining Kroger Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. as the latest companies affected by hackers over the weekend.

Epsilon, a Dallas-based marketing and communications vendor, handles communications for all of the companies. The company said it discovered that hackers obtained customer email addresses and names, but no other personal information was at risk.

Kroger Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. announced Friday they had been affected, but that customers’ financial data were not a part of the breach.

Best Buy, TiVo and Walgreens issued warnings to customers to be wary of emails, appearing to be from the companies, asking for personal information.
