While retail activity in Australia, overall, isn't breaking any records, apparently consumer demand for clothing is getting big attention, especially children's clothing.
A recent MasterCard SpendingPulse report notes that while Australia's retail growth is "very modest," given the 3.4 percent increase so far this year, specialty children's clothing is flying off the shelves, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report. The report notes three quarters of retail activity is being driven by the female consumer.
"Women make 75 per cent of transactions, and I like to tease we influence the other 25 per cent," Sarah Quinlan, MasterCard senior VP of market insights, told the Herald. "She is making the household decisions; she's buying his clothes as well in many cases."
