Nearly half of consumers, 47%, plan to buy more American-made products this year.

The news, from a Gartner Inc. survey, comes on the heels of tariffs being enacted by President Trump.

The survey polled 212 U.S. consumers in March and also revealed 42% of consumers have decided to wait to make a major purchase. The figure is up from 28% in 2024, according to a press release on the findings.

By the third quarter of 2025, Gartner predicts 60% of consumers will have elected to delay a major purchase. And by the end of the year, Gartner predicts 60% of consumers will buy on secondhand and peer-to-peer marketplaces.

"The current wave of economic uncertainty is reshaping consumer behavior in profound ways," Kate Muhl, VP analyst in the Gartner Marketing practice, said in the release. "There is a clear shift toward more deliberate purchasing decisions and budget-conscious shopping strategies, as individuals prioritize financial stability over immediate gratification."
