Custom men's fashion meets the house call

July 4, 2011

A story in the Centre Daily Times from State College, Penn. highlights the growth of J. Hilburn, a men’s clothier that specializes in bespoke shirts and trousers. J. Hilburn’s consultants actually visit clients’ homes and offices to take measurements, provide fabric samples and make recommendations on style and fit.

The cost for J. Hilburn clothing is relatively reasonable considering it is custom-made. Shirts are between $89 and $159, and slacks can range from $125 to $200.

"It’s high-end stuff, comparable to products bought at Nordstrom or Barneys — we use the same manufacturers they do, but we are able to save customers 60 percent of the cost because there isn’t a retail store involved," Connie Martin, one of J. Hilburn’s newest consultants, said in the story.

Custom orders take approximately three to six weeks for delivery and advisors provide any minor alterations to the clothing when it is delivered. Once a client's measurements are recorded, additional orders for clothing can be made through the company's website.
