Discount retailer taps longtime supermarket leader for CEO role

Kroger, Proctor & Gamble veteran will take the helm.

Geoffrey Covert, who has spent nearly two decades with Kroger and another two decades with Proctor & Gamble, is the new president and CEO for 99 Cents Only Stores.

He will replace interim president and CEO Andrew Giancamilli, who stepped into the top leadership role this past April after Stephane Gonthier resigned. Giancamilli, according to a Supermarket News report, will remain with the company serving as chairman of the board.

"We believe Geoff has the experience to continue to implement and build upon the strategies we have initiated," stated Giancamilli in the report.
