This month Disney Parks will bring back a fan favorite experience that was shelved during the pandemic years — the opportunity to interact with characters.

The company instituted a 6-foot distance from costumed characters as a safety measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a CNN report.

Now young Disney goers, starting April 18, can give a hug to their favorite character at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts as well as the cruise line and a resort in Hawaii, according to a Disney Park blog post.

"During the past two years, we've taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols," wrote Shawn Slater, senior communications manager for Disney Live Entertainment, in the blog.

"Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in phases throughout the spring and early summer."
