Electrify America prepping EV stations for Walmart, Target

April 27, 2018

Electrify America will install "ultrafast" electric vehicle chargers at more than 100 retail, convenience and refueling locations across the U.S., including Target and Walmart, boosting convenience for consumers who drive an electric vehicle or are considering the purchase of one.

Each location will offer multiple chargers. Initial partners include Target Corp., Brixmor Property Group, Kimco Realty Corp., DDR Corp., Sheetz Inc., Casey's General Stores Inc. and Global Partners LP's Alltown, according to a press release. The chargers are part of Electrify America's first $500 million, Cycle 1 investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, education and access in the U.S. The company plans to complete four investment cycles over the next decade, resulting in a total investment of $2 billion.

Electrify America said in a separate announcement it will install electric vehicle chargers at more than 100 Walmart locations across 34 states by June 2019. This initiative will more than double the number of electric vehicle charging stations at Walmart stores across the U.S. and make Walmart one of the leading electric vehicle charging station hosts in the U.S. retail sector.

Target, meanwhile, is accelerating its electric vehicle program with the help of Electrify America, Tesla and ChargePoint. EV charging stations are now available at 18 Target sites in California, Hawaii, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas, and will expand to more than 600 parking spaces at more than 100 sites across more than 20 states over the next two years.
