Fujitsu has announced that Genesco Inc., a North American shoe and headwear retailer, has successfully upgraded its point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure with the Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminals in more than 1,000 stores. More than 2,000 terminals were upgraded in Genesco's Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Shi by Journeys stores and select Johnston & Murphy stores. Featuring the Intel Core2 Duo mobile processor, the Fujitsu systems offer Genesco increased reliability, significant energy savings and reduced maintenance costs, resulting in lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
The system also offers the advantage of laptop components, such as hard drives, that are shock-resistant and ruggedized for the retail environment.
In its Foothill Ranch, Calif., facility, Fujitsu configured and staged each Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminal used for the Genesco retail store rollout. After an initial pilot project involving 65 store locations during the fall of 2008, the rollout of the Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminals started Feb. 3, 2009, and finished on time for back-to-school sales on July 31, 2009.
"When looking to install almost 2,100 new POS terminals in more than 1,000 retail stores in 50 states, exceptional hardware is just half of the equation, said Rob Taylor, senior vice president store operations, Genesco Retail. "Upgrading systems can be very disruptive for the stores and losing even one sale is not an option. Fujitsu worked very well with our store operations and information systems teams to execute a near flawless rollout plan."
