Google opens its first bricks-and-mortar shop

The dominant player in search now has an in-store presence: The Register reports that the first Google Shop has opened, on Tottenham Court Road in London.

The store, which is hosted inside a Currys megastore, sells a single product: the 12.1" Google Chromebook, the company's lean netbook which is optimized for the cloud. Staffers told Register reporters that they had to double up staff over the weekend due to demand — from three to six, that is.
