Clothing and accessories retailer H&M has closed its flagship store in Shanghai, China due to decreased consumer demand as well as COVID-19 impacts and a backlash against brands not using Xinjiang cotton.

The three-story store was boarded up last week and signage was gone, according to a Reuters report.

H&M is the second biggest global fast-fashion brand in China and opened the flaghship store 15 years ago and was operating more than 500 locations as of last year.

The news comes as other China brand retailers, including Nike and Adidas, are facing consumer boycott for not using Xingjiang cotton in production.
