JC Penney has announced that it will support the Cellfire mobile coupon program, which allows shoppers to download and carry coupons on their smart phones. In a press release, the company said 16 of its Houston stores have upgraded their POS systems with new Motorola DS9808 digital imager scanners that are able to scan phone screens.
"Mobile coupon scanning is the latest way we are helping consumers easily take advantage of the discounts at their fingertips," said Brent Dusing, chief executive officer of Cellfire. "We believe this will be the first step in taking this technology to a variety of markets and industries, passing along the savings to consumers nationwide."
The retailer plans new coupon offers "almost every week" throughout the fall and into the holiday season, and some of those will be exclusives for members of the JCP Rewards loyalty program.
