Weight loss and nutrition company Jenny Craig has shut down its physical stores after attempts to secure financing proved futile.

The company had been in business for over 40 years and operated just about 500 company-owned and franchise locations in the U.S. and Canada, according to a NBC News report.

Founded in 1983, it will continue to operate an e-commerce channel, according to a statement a Jenny Craig spokesperson provided to NBC News.
