July sees increase in retail sales

American retailers reported a sales increase in July, after three months of lower than expected sales. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that discounts and warm weather were responsible for the lift.

Sales among the nation's retailers rose 4.4 percent, according to Retail Metrics, with both Target and Macy's both outpacing expectations. For example, Target's same-store sales rose 3.1 percent, and Macy's rose 4.1 percent. Analysts predict that back-to-school shopping will add to that growth, according to the story.
