Krillion adds video games to local search index

May 31, 2009

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Krillion has added video games to its enormous local search index. Krillion's real-time product search technology, which already powers many of the leading shopping engines, yellow page directories and product review sites, can determine which stores have a particular computer game in stock right now, so that gamers can find the latest games at a nearby store. In a nutshell: search online, pick up in-store, locally.

"Whether it's the game enthusiast who wants to pick up the latest game today, or the mom who needs to buy last-minute gift for a birthday party, video games are among those items that shoppers often want to buy locally," said Joel Toledano, chief executive of Krillion. "Until today, general search engines, Web publishers and games publishers have not been able to tell you which local retailer has a particular game in stock. Now, no matter where you are on the Web, Krillion can direct you to in-stock product at a local retailer."

Krillion tackles local product search from two angles. First, nearly 6,000 video games from dozens of leading video game publishers are now live in the Krillion Localization Engine. Second, Krillion's real-time StockCheck technology connects with 22,000 big-box and regional retail locations across the United States to show product pricing and availability by ZIP code. Krillion works with most of the leading national retailers to help boost in-store and online sales of titles, and has added leading games retailer GameStop to its search index.

Consumers often first visit the Web sites of game manufacturers, console manufacturers and game publishers before deciding what to buy. To make it easier for these consumers to locate the game they want locally, Krillion embeds its dynamic Product Locator into these Web sites.

Krillion's product search technology covers more than one billion local, in-store items across the country, making it the largest provider of location-specific product information, and the easiest way for manufacturers, publishers and shopping engines to connect online shoppers who visit their sites with local retailers that have in-stock product. Krillion's index includes covers appliances, computers, consumer electronics, lawn and garden, tools and hardware, and video games and consoles — 160 product categories across more than 1,000 product brands. Krillion's technology is also embedded into many leading review sites and shopping engines, including Buzzillions, The Find, ShopSavvy, SuperPages, Topix and YellowPages.com.
