The Kroger Co. is partnering with Loop, an e-commerce platform, on a reusable packing system pilot program as part of the retailer's quest to reduce single-use plastics.
The program will offer shoppers in specific markets over 100 products from brands designed with durable containers, according to a Yahoo report.
Products on the Loop platform are packaged in reusable glass or metal containers and sent directly to shoppers in a specially designed bag, according to the report. After use, the products are reclaimed via a free at-home pickup, cleaned, refilled and reused.
The first phase will be aimed at shoppers in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
