Home improvement retailer Lowe's has donated $1 million to disaster relief groups as well as $1 million in product donations in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
The monetary donation will be dispersed to several organizations including the American Red Cross and the St. Bernard Project, according to a press release.
The retailer has also initiated several support strategies for its associates and residents including:
- Lowe's stores in the hardest-hit areas hosted bucket brigade events to distribute free, critically needed cleanup supplies. In the past weeks, Lowe's stores have distributed nearly 2,000 disaster relief buckets nationwide to help communities.
- Volunteers at Lowe's regional distribution centers in North Carolina and Texas prepared disaster relief buckets.
- Approximately 240 Lowe's Emergency Response Team members from Florida, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi deployed to the impacted areas.
- Lowe's is providing additional assistance to employees. Lowe's offered associates with emergency needs up to $500 to help cover evacuation and preparation expenses. The company also is expanding its financial assistance through the Lowe's Employee Relief Fund. Lowe's is doubling the company's match, contributing $2 for every dollar an employee donates. Since 1999, the fund has helped more than 36,000 associates with $41 million in financial aid.
