Home improvement retailer Lowe's is pledging $1 million dollars in support of relief efforts to residents impacted by Hurricane Laura which hit the Gulf Coast, causing big flooding and destruction.

The donation will also be used to support those battling California wildfires, as well as other community response efforts in the U.S., according to a press release.

Lowe's has already donated $500,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Lowe's will continue to work closely with nonprofit partners and government agencies to determine immediate and long-term support needed in local communities, stated the release.

"Lowe's works to make homes better for all every day, and our donations will help the American Red Cross and other nonprofits respond to critical needs in communities impacted by recent natural disasters, including funds to provide shelter and housing," Lowe's president and CEO Marvin R. Ellison said in the release. "We're thankful for the hard work by the American Red Cross as they quickly provide relief in Texas, Louisiana, California and Iowa, and our stores are committed to providing relief for associates and customers in a time when we know our neighbors need us now more than ever."

Lowe's stores will also be distributing supplies to residents who are continuing cleanup efforts from Hurricane Laura.
