MobiKwik expands retailer network in India for mobile payments

India-based online wallet MobiKwik last week announced an agreement with retail outlet WHSmith India to enable digital payments at multiple offline outlets.

India-based online wallet MobiKwik last week announced an agreement with retail outlet WHSmith India to enable digital payments at multiple offline outlets, according to multiple media reports.

WHSmith, which is based in the U.K., is a bookstore that has 55 locations in Delhi and Mumbai.

"We are proud to play a leading role in mainstreaming mobile wallets in India by making them accessible at offline outlets," MobiKwik Founder and CEO Bipin Preet Singh said in a statement. "Mobile payment has considerable potential to disrupt Indian retail and we aim to create many more such partnerships for mobile wallets to replace cash and cards."

MobiKwik said each WHSmith location will act as a "MobiKwik Node," which means those physical locations will accept mobile payments and serve as a reload network for users to adds funds to their wallet.
