New eBay service allows UK shoppers to 'click and collect'

The Internet giant eBay has joined forces with the U.K. retailer Argos to offer a Click & Collect service, enabling shoppers to purchase products from selected eBay merchants and pick them up at Argos stores throughout the U.K. — a move that Tech Crunch calls eBay's answer to Amazon Lockers.

The partnership creates an unmatched network of commerce and marks the first of its kind in the U.K., according to a news release from eBay. At least 50 eBay merchants will participate in the trial, enabling a wide range of merchandise to be available for collection by customers from around 150 Argos stores.

"With the continuing growth of online shopping, customers increasingly expect faster, cheaper and more convenient fulfillment of their orders," said John Walden, managing director of Argos. "EBay, an innovator in digital and leading online marketplace connecting sellers and consumers, is already a strong partner with Argos and a logical partner for the trial."

Devin Wenig, president of eBay, said the service is another move toward the blurred distinction between online and offline shopping.
